Cafe Royal - Oldham

At the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, we take food seriously. We believe our patients deserve high quality, enjoyable and nutritious food, to make their stay as pleasant as possible and to aid their recovery.

The Pennine Acute Hospitals catering service provides more than 1,417,528 meals for patients across the Trust's five hospital sites annually and serves over 518,676 staff and visitors in our restaurants. We also serve more than 280,728 customers at The Shop@The Royal and sell over 53,424 Costa coffees.

We have restaurants for visitors and staff at each of our hospitals offering a wide range of hot and cold food, drinks and snacks. We also have vending machines at each site, which are available 24/7.

North Manchester General Hospital

Gallery Restaurant

This restaurant provides hot and cold dishes, snacks and beverages to staff and visitors. The dining room is very well signposted within the hospital premises and is a popular venue with all users.

The Gallery Restaurant is situated on Block D, close to the Quad car park entrance to the hospital.

Opening times:

Monday to Friday                    8.00am to 6.30pm

Saturday and Sunday             8.00am to 11.00am

Breakfast is served between   8.00am to 10.30am (Monday to Sunday)

Gallery Main Servery              11.45am to 2.00pm

Café Repleat

Situated within The Gallery Restaurant is the Café Repleat. Open from 8.00am to 10.30am (Breakfast) and 11.00am to 7.00pm, this addition to the Gallery Restaurant offers customers freshly made sandwiches from a range of local bread and rolls, freshly prepared hot snacks and specials.

Vending Machines

There is a vending area situated adjacent to the Gallery Restaurant for when visitors require hot and cold snacks/drinks and this facility is regularly stocked to ensure customers can access something to eat or drink 24 hours a day. Also on the main hospital corridor near D Block, the Trust have additional vending machines which offer hot and cold drinks and snacks including a Costa Coffee machine for out of hours service.

Costa Express self-serve coffee bars are fundamentally different from typical hot drink vending machines because they use fresh milk and coffee beans. The Trust recognised that staff and visitors to our sites often brought in a Costa Coffee from local amenities, and with this in mind decided to install a Costa Coffee machine at North Manchester General Hospital and The Royal Oldham Hospital, and to date, both machines have been a huge hit with users.

Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) Cafe

An RVS cafe is situated in Outpatients A and it is open between the hours of 6.30am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday. This facility offers hot and cold snacks and beverages.

The Royal Oldham Hospital

The Café Royal

From breakfast right through to evening meals, the Café Royal offers freshly prepared traditional home cooking, using good quality ingredients, to produce great value and quality food.

The Café has a Baguette Bar, which is very popular with staff and visitors. You choose the bread and filling to create a sandwich that is just how you like it. If you want to grab and go, there is also a great variety of salads and sandwiches ready to go.

The Café Royal is situated on the main corridor on the main entrance floor.

Opening times:

Monday to Friday                     7.30am to 6.00pm

Saturday and Sunday              8.00am to 11.00am for breakfast only.

Breakfast is served between    7.30am to 10.30am Monday to Friday.

The Shop@the Royal

At the main entrance of the hospital, The Shop@The Royal, owned and operated by the Trust, is open until 8pm, 7 days a week. Staff, visitors and patients can buy sandwiches, snacks and hot drinks, including a Costa Coffee. In the last 12 months, The Shop@The Royal served 280,728 customers with snacks, newspapers, magazines, confectionery, toiletries and games/toys.

Fairfield General Hospital

The Broad Oak Suite

Situated away from the main hospital, the Broad Oak Suite is well worth a visit. The restaurant continues the tradition of serving fresh, homemade cooking and caters for vegetarians and those with a special diet. The large, beautifully decorated dining room offers a great space to relax and enjoy the food. If the weather is fine, you can eat outside on the patio dining area.

The Baguette Bar is very popular, with a large variety of fillings and breads, you can create a sandwich that is exactly how you want it. If you have to grab and go, then there is a great variety of salads and sandwiches freshly prepared and ready to eat.

Saturday                       8.15am to 11.00am

Breakfast served           8.15am to 11.00am

Lunch served                12.00 noon to 2.00pm

Beverages, sandwiches and snacks are also available all day.

Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) Shop

There is an RVS shop at the main entrance of Fairfield General hospital. They sell newspapers, magazines, cards, confectionery and basic essentials that a patient may need during their stay in hospital i.e. combs, toothpaste and toothbrushes.

The RVS also have a cafe in the main Outpatient Departments, where they sell hot and cold beverages, sandwiches and other light snacks.

Monday to Friday  9.00am to 4.00pm

There is also a tea bar in the antenatal clinic, which sells toast, sandwiches, confectionery and hot and cold drinks. This is open on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and alternate Fridays from 9.00am to 1.00pm.

Rochdale Infirmary


Aroma Cafe RochdaleAroma Plus

Aroma Plus is a high street style coffee shop that is proudly owned and operated by the NHS. It is situated on the Atrium balcony in the main entrance of Rochdale Infirmary and offers a variety of freshly made products to make your mouth water.

Aroma has its own unique blend of Fairtrade coffees. It serves sandwiches, baguettes and muffins. Salads are made fresh every day and you can choose from the wide variety of fillings, or have one made up just how you would like it.

Breakfast including bacon muffins, sausage muffins, porridge, granola, toasted teacakes and crumpets are available from 8am-11am. If you would like something warm, why not try a hot panini or toasted sandwich, which are available all day. A choice of soups, pizzas and jacket potatoes with various fillings are also served daily from 11.30am to 2.00pm, and be sure to check the menu for a daily special. If you fancy a treat, you will be spoilt for choice with our range of cakes, muffins and cookies.

The Aroma Plus Café is open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.00pm.

Aroma Community Coffee Shop

The Aroma Community Coffee Shop is located in the Main Outpatients Department and is open Monday to Friday between the hours 9.00am until 3.00pm. The shop sells a wide range of coffees, sandwiches, salads, toast and toasted teacakes, assorted cakes, confectionery, bottled drinks, newspapers and greetings cards.
