Breastfeeding welcome

Breastfeeding is welcomed in any area on all of our hospital sites and if you request a private room to feed, then we will do our utmost to provide this for you.

We have a breastfeeding room available next to the Café Royale restaurant at The Royal Oldham Hospital and next to the Gallery restaurant at North Manchester General Hospital.

We offer several options and support to enable women to continue feeding their baby if they are required to stay in hospital.

Visit our Feeding your new baby page for more details

You and your baby

If possible, you and your baby will remain together, with a trustworthy friend or relative to provide 24-hour care for your baby. If the ward can accommodate your carer, then they can stay on the ward with you on either a chair or on a put-up bed. If the ward cannot facilitate this, then your baby can be brought in for feeds with flexible visiting arrangements.

Expressing your breast milk

You can bring in your own pump and kit, or hire or buy a pump from the maternity units via the hire or sale system currently set-up at The Royal Oldham Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital.
