Ophthalmology
Where is the service provided?
For patients registered with an Oldham GP, full outpatient services along with diagnostic tests and some minor treatments such as laser therapy will be provided from the Integrated Care Centre, New Radcliffe Street, Oldham, Greater Manchester, OL1 1NL
Specialist eye day case will be carried out at Rochdale Infirmary, Whitehall Street, Rochdale, Lancashire, OL12 0NB
Who is the service for?
This service is for all patients referred by their GP/Optician or seen as an emergency with a condition affecting their vision.
What does the service provide?
The service provides eye care for patients with conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, children’s eye conditions, orthoptics, vitreo-retinal conditions, corneal and low vision aids services.

- Nurses and Nurse specialists
- Health care assistants
- Consultant Ophthalmologists and Ophthalmology Doctors
- Orthoptists
When is the service available?
The Ophthalmology service is available Monday to Friday for all out-patient attendances and emergency cover is provided by out of hours by attending an A & E department.

Rochdale Infirmary has a dedicated Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO), Karen Taylor, who can provide advice and support for anyone affected by sight loss on topics that can make life easier:
- maintaining your independence
- equipment and technology that can help you do the things you need to do
- eye condition and treatment understanding
- access to education, employment, and leisure
- benefits and concessions that you may be entitled to
