Home Intravenous Therapy Service

Who is the service for?

Patients who require therapies delivered intravenously (into a vein), referrals into the service would usually be from a GP or a hospital consultant.

What does the service provide?

The team provide intravenous therapy to patients in their own home or at a community clinic close to home.  Therapy is usually delivered intravenously as it is the fastest way to get it working in the body.  Having this therapy at home or in the community reduces the need for a long stay in hospital.

Who will patients meet while under your department/service’s care?

IV therapy will be delivered by a nurse who has been specially trained.

When is the service available?

Seven days a week, 8am to 8pm, 365 days a year.

Where is the service provided?

Care is delivered in the patient’s own home or at a community clinic close to home.
