A presentation was held in the Children’s Outpatients Unit at North Manchester General Hospital to celebrate a donation from MedEquip4Kids, the children’s health charity.

MedEquip4Kids has provided the department with toys, play equipment and specialised sensory equipment to help relax and distract patients during their hospital visit.  The upgrades will create a more child-friendly environment and improve the hospital experience for families.

Hospitals can be frightening places, especially when a child is anxious or distressed. The Children’s Outpatients Unit at North Manchester General Hospital is a busy department caring for approximately 2,500 children each year.

Gill Burdaky, Health Play Specialist, for the department, said “The play and sensory equipment from MedEquip4Kids is already making a big difference, especially in our treatment rooms to calm and distract children”.

Janey Hellmen, Corporate Fundraiser at MedEquip4Kids, said: “We would like to thank the Jigsaw Foundation from the Jigsaw Homes Group for generously funding this project. Potential community projects were put forward for Jigsaw Homes Group’s tenants to vote on and we are very grateful to everyone who voted in support of this project.”

MedEquip4Kids has donated more than a quarter of a million pounds worth of equipment to North Manchester General Hospital to improve children’s health. The charity provides equipment not available from limited NHS resources. For more information about MedEquip4Kids check out www.medequip4kids.org.uk
