Graduation of Northridge High School Pupils

PUPILS from Northridge High School graduated from their internships at North Manchester General Hospital.

The hospital, run by North Manchester Care Organisation, has been running a work experience programme for the past six years as part of wider efforts to build strong links with the community it serves.

This year is the first that has led to paid employment for one of the pupils, as Jason has gone on to secure a job with the hospital catering team.

They, the team that supports the school partnership, and the Directors that run the hospital were all proud to see them achieve their certificates – gained from a year of working in a number of services at the hospital, including theatres, pharmacy and the restaurant.

Teams from across the hospital in different departments where the young people worked attended the graduation held last month, along with parents and friends to support the students on their special day.

Professor Matt Makin, Medical Director at North Manchester Care Organisation, which is part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, said:

“It’s a great privilege to be here today and to thank you for all that you have done while you have been here at North Manchester.

“It’s been a real pleasure to see you grow and blossom in your confidence. Parents and friends, you should be really proud of what the students have achieved and what they have brought to the hospital and the staff and the patients.”

Lead for Supported Internship (Northridge High School) Claire Brannigan said the students were valued members of their team and praised them for being hardworking, dedicated young people wanting to succeed.

“It is an absolute pleasure to support the students and help them reach their full potential,” she said.

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group brings together Salford Royal and Pennine Acute trusts, employing over 19,000 staff at hospitals and community services in Salford, Oldham, Bury, Rochdale and North Manchester.

Five students graduated this time. A new cohort of students will begin their internship at North Manchester in September 2019.
