Get sugar smart with a free event in Bury
29 March 2019

Local residents are invited to Fairfield General Hospital for a free event to find out more about living healthier lifestyles by becoming sugar smart and increasing exercise.

The event, on Tuesday 16 April between 1.30 and 4pm in the hospital’s education centre, will offer ideas on improving health by becoming ‘sugar smart’ – being aware of the amount of sugar which is in everyday food and drink items, and making informed choices about how to reduce intake.

As well as raising awareness of how to become sugar smart, the event will offer tips and suggestions for becoming more physically active.

There will be a range of speakers, and lifestyle support services will be on hand to offer advice on healthy eating and local activities which are available to help you stay active and how to better manage chronic long-term conditions. There will also be free BMI and weight checks for anyone who wants one.

Tyrone Roberts, director of nursing for Bury & Rochdale Care Organisation, said: “Come to the event to find out more about cutting sugar and getting fitter from some of our experts. We can also offer some great tips on managing one or both of those things alongside existing long-term conditions. We’d like to invite the people of Bury to join us in a 60-day challenge to reduce sugar, become active – or both. You’ll be able to get lots of advice and support at the event.”

The event is free, open to everyone and is being supported by Bury Council and Age UK.

Please book your free tickets for the event online at Eventbrite.
