17 May 2019

Nicky Hill from Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has been appointed to the new Executive Director role of Chief of People for the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group.

Ms Hill will report directly to Chief Executive, Raj Jain, to lead the delivery of the Group’s People Strategy, champion staff health and wellbeing, and drive forward leadership and talent development.

The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA) brings together five hospitals, specialist and acute services, a range of associated community services, and over 17,000 staff across Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. Serving a population of 1.2 million people, the NCA oversees the provision of healthcare services in Salford, Oldham, Bury, Rochdale and North Manchester through its Care Organisations.

Nicky is currently Director of HR at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust having been there since April 2015.  She joined the NHS in January 2013 at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as Director of Workforce and OD.  Prior to joining the NHS Nicky worked in the private sector, having spent a large part of her career in HR at Boots UK, where she worked for 20 years in a variety of HR roles. After Boots she undertook interim assignments at Gala Coral and Rolls Royce in Derby.  Nicky has a generalist HR background and has worked on several change programmes and worked closely with executive teams supporting them on the overall shape and design of the organisation, the organisational culture and employee engagement.

In being appointed, Nicky said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be given the opportunity to join the team at Northern Care Alliance.  It is clear from all the people I have met there is huge passion in the organisation for delivering great and safe care to patients.  My role as Chief of People will be to help create the right environment across the organisation to ensure that all of the dedicated people working for patients and service users also feel cared for and valued and able to achieve their own goals.”

Commenting on the appointment, Chief Executive Raj Jain and Chairman Mr Jim Potter of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group, said:

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Nicky Hill as our new Chief of People. She is a highly regarded Director with a huge amount of knowledge and experience in HR, organisation development and workforce transformation both in the NHS and in the private sector. Our greatest asset is our people. For this reason, Nicky will help us drive forward the key elements of our People Strategy to help make improvements for our staff and for our patients. Nicky will be a member of the Group Executive and help contribute to promoting and embedding a culture which is patient centred, empowers staff, promotes personal accountability, is fair and collaborative and delivers continuous improvement. This will involve capitalising on the opportunities created by digitisation, our role in Greater Manchester and our scale as a Group.”

In April 2019, Raj Jain started in post as Chief Executive for the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group. With an operating budget of £1.3bn, the NCA provides the benefits of scale but delivers this locally through multiple hospital sites and local healthcare services. Four Care Organisations for Oldham, Bury/Rochdale, North Manchester and Salford are responsible for delivering safe, high quality and reliable care to the local communities they serve.
