Staff working with premature babies at North Manchester General Hospital and The Royal Oldham Hospital have been thanked for all their hard work, with a selection of edible treats from Greater Manchester neonatal support charity, SPOONS.

SPOONS works with both the hospitals to support the whole family, practically and emotionally from admission to the neonatal unit and beyond, allowing hospital staff to concentrate on providing clinical care.

Large hampers have been presented to staff at both hospitals, containing tea, coffee, instant noodles, biscuits, chocolates and other snack treats to keep staff going on their festive shifts caring for premature and poorly babies. There’s also a lucky dip, with mystery gift-wrapped treats for every member of staff on the units to enjoy.

The charity’s volunteers have also put together Christmas gift packs for every family on the unit on Christmas Day, thanks to the generosity of supporters.

Rachel Whyte, Team Leader for the Neonatal Unit at North Manchester, who will be working the nightshift on Christmas Day, thanked SPOONS on behalf of both neonatal units and said: “Lovely donations like this make you feel like what you are doing is all worthwhile. We really appreciate SPOONS; they are a big source of support for us and the families on the unit.”
