HMR Intravenous Therapy Team (HITT)

IV Therapy 1

Who is the service for?

Patients who require therapies delivered intravenously (into a vein), referrals into the service would usually be from a GP, UCCT, Ambulatory Care Unit, UCC, Community Matrons or a hospital consultant.

What does the service provide?

The team provides intravenous therapy to patients at a community clinic close to home or at home for bed bound patients.  Therapy is usually delivered intravenously as it is the fastest way to commence treatment.  Having this therapy in the community or at home reduces the need for a long stay in hospital.

Who will patients meet while under your department/service’s care?

IV therapy will be delivered by a nurse who has been specially trained.

When is the service available?

Seven days a week, 8am to 8pm, 365 days a year.

Where is the service provided?

Care is delivered in a community clinic close to home or in a patients home.
