Manchester Single Hospital Service Update

The Interim Board of Directors for the new city-wide NHS Foundation Trust for Manchester has announced the decision of its new name as part of the new Single Hospital Service (SHS) for the City of Manchester. Earlier this year, staff and stakeholders were asked for their views about three options for the name of the new Foundation Trust. The Interim Board has considered feedback received from over 3,000 staff and stakeholders. The new name has been confirmed as:

‘Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust’

This new name, abbreviated to ‘MFT’, will launch from 1st October 2017 when Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) cease to exist as independent Foundation Trusts, subject to clearance for the merger. As part of the SHS programme, we continue with our plans to integrate North Manchester General Hospital with the new organisation around 12-18 months after the merger of CMFT and UHSM.

It also includes information on a number of key service developments and achievements over the past year. The report is publicly available on the NHS Choices website and on PAT website.
