Single service model for hospitals in City of Manchester |

An update has been published on the outcome of six weeks of discussions about hospital services in Manchester, following a Health and Wellbeing Board (HWBB) meeting on 8 June 2016. The Single Hospital Service review was an independently run exercise to explore how Manchester hospitals could best address the poor health outcomes and inequalities across the city. The review was undertaken by Sir Jonathan Michael and looked at the services provided by University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM), North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) run by The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (PAHT), and Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT). |
Trust’s Quality Account Report 2015/16 |

The Trust’s Quality Account Report 2015/16 has been published and is available on our website and on NHS Choices. Quality Accounts are annual public reports from NHS providers about the quality and standards of services they provide. They are required by Government to help NHS Trusts, including providers of hospital services, community health services and mental health services, maintain focus and improve the quality of care for patients. This is the Trust’s seventh Quality Account. They are an important tool for strengthening accountability for quality within NHS Trusts and for ensuring effective engagement of Trust Boards in the quality improvement agenda and for driving up standards. The report sets out the quality priorities for 2016/17 and reflects on last year’s quality and performance measures. It also highlights areas of service development and achievements of the Trust. |
New and expectant mothers, and their families invited to tell us what you think of Maternity Services |

North Manchester General Hospital is holding a ‘Whose Shoes’ engagement event on Monday 25 July which is open to new and expectant mothers and their families, and those who have experience of using Maternity Services at the hospital. The free event is taking place at The Irish Heritage Centre, 1 Irish Town Way, Cheetham Hill, Manchester, M8 0RY on 25 July at 12.30pm until 4pm. |
Trust leads the way with UKs first NHS use of hand held pain relief treatment |

Patients at hospitals run by the Trust are the first NHS patients in the UK to be able to self administer a new pain relieving drug (Sufentanil) via a hand held device (Zalviso). The Trust is the first NHS Trust in the UK to use the pioneering technique. Using a hand held device eliminates the risks associated with traditional intravenous pain relief. |
North Manchester Crisis Response Service wins national Patient Safety Award |

THE Pennine Acute Trust’s Community Crisis Response Service in North Manchester has won the ‘Improving Safety in Primary Care’ award at this year’s national Patient Safety Awards. The 2016 Patient Safety Awards took place on 5 July at Manchester Central alongside the Patient Safety Congress. |
Trust pledges to support dementia carers to stay in hospital with their loved ones |

THE Trust has pledged support to dementia charity John’s Campaign, which fights for the right of people with dementia to be supported by their carers in hospital. All four of the Trust’s hospitals, North Manchester General Hospital, The Royal Oldham Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital in Bury and Rochdale Infirmary have signed up to the John’s Campaign ‘Carers Welcome’ list. |
Pennine is getting it right for people with a learning disability |

The Trust has signed up to Mencap’s ‘Getting it right charter’ to show its commitment to improving healthcare and treatment for people with a learning disability. The announcement came as the Trust joined with other NHS organisations in supporting national Learning Disability Awareness Week (20-27 June 2016). |
Staff Awards - Pennine Patients' Choice Award 2016 |

The Trust is seeking nominations from the public for the ‘Pennine Patients’ Choice Award’ as part of its Staff Awards 2016, which will be held on the evening of the 18 November 2016. Our awards recognise the very best of patient care, dedication and innovation across the Trust’s four hospitals and community services, and its staff. |
Trust sets up specialist Falls Team |
|
The Trust has appointed two new nurses to establish a specialist Falls Team. Sally Hulmes, Lead Practitioner for Falls, and her colleague Trish Richardson, Specialist Practitioner for Falls, joined the Trust just over a month ago and are now finding their feet and planning what challenges to take on around ‘falls’ in wards across the Trust. Both staff will help teams reduce the risks of falls in our wards/depts and ensure patients stay safe throughout their stay/visit. To contact the Falls Team email falls.service@pat.nhs.uk |
