Pennine consultant anaesthetist pens book chapter

Dr Santosh Patel, Consultant Anaesthetist at the Trust has completed a book chapter about gastrointestinal surgery for a book to be published by Cambridge University Press. The book is currently in proof format and not yet on the market, but Dr Patel has kindly provided a snippet of his chapter for educational purposes.

Dr Patel said: "I was invited to write a chapter for the 3rd edition and I thought it was a good opportunity. The editor had read my two part review articles on colorectal anaesthesia published in 2012. It has taken a long time, approximately three months, and certainly more than 100 hours."

There are six sub topics in the chapter including sections on ‘anaesthesia and intestinal circulation’ and ‘anaesthesia and anastomotic leak’ which are advanced topics often not included in major anaesthesia text books.
