Fairfield General Hospital’s A&E expansion work continues |
Work to complete a £2.25m expansion to the accident and emergency department at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury is making good progress. Construction work is due to complete in July 2014. |
Dementia friendly ward at Fairfield - Free tour |
A new dementia friendly ward (Ward 21) at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury is opening its doors and inviting the public to a free exclusive tour on Thursday 22nd May, at 1.30 pm. The new 23-bedded medical ward has been specially designed to create a dementia friendly environment to care for those suffering with the debilitating disease. |
Oasis Unit at Rochdale Infirmary - now open |
GPs are advised that the Oasis Unit at Rochdale Infirmary has now been officially opened. The new unit offering specialised care for patients with dementia needing acute treatment was due to begin accepting patients on 22 April, but due to staff recruitment issues this was pushed back to Monday 12 May. |
Hearing Therapy at North Manchester |
In February, Hearing Therapy at North Manchester General Hospital joined the ‘National Tinnitus Awareness Week’ initiative to promote the specialist support available for tinnitus patients in North Manchester. Hearing Therapy is one of the specialist services offered by the Trust’s Audiology Department and provides a comprehensive rehabilitation service for those patients who have demanding, wide ranging and/or complex hearing or balance issues.This can range from diagnosis, to counselling, ongoing management and support. |
Pennine consultant anaesthetist pens book chapter |
Dr Santosh Patel, Consultant Anaesthetist at the Trust has completed a book chapter about gastrointestinal surgery for a book to be published by Cambridge University Press. The book is currently in proof format and not yet on the market, but Dr Patel has kindly provided a snippet of his chapter for educational purposes. Dr Patel said: "I was invited to write a chapter for the 3rd edition and I thought it was a good opportunity. The editor had read my two part review articles on colorectal anaesthesia published in 2012. It has taken a long time, approximately three months, and certainly more than 100 hours." There are six sub topics in the chapter including sections on ‘anaesthesia and intestinal circulation’ and ‘anaesthesia and anastomotic leak’ which are advanced topics often not included in major anaesthesia text books. |
