Patient and Visitor Parking
Each of our hospital sites have a number of Patient and Visitor Car Parks and also parking for blue badge holders and drop off/ pick up areas. We use signage with different colours and symbols to designate available parking as detailed below.
Weekly and monthly parking tickets are also available using card payment at from General/ Cashiers Offices at our hospital sites, as detailed in the following table.
Charges for patient and visitor parking
We do charge for patient and visitor parking, with the charges being displayed on tariff signs displayed in patient and visitor parking areas. However, we also offer concessions for certain types of users including blue badge holders, see further details following; along with reduced price tickets for weekly or monthly parking.
We have 3 methods of payment:
- PaySmarti – online, text and phone payments by card/ account, see paysmarti.co.uk and signs at hospitals for details, or download the PaySmarti app.
Pay by app:
1: Download the PaySmarti App from the Apple / Google App store
2: Find a PaySmarti sign/ reference number (see codes and tariff below) and Park.
3: Open the PaySmarti app on your Smartphone and follow the steps.
Pay online:
- Sign-in to PaySmarti.co.uk on your phone
- Tell us where you’ve parked (see codes and tariff below), your vehicle registration number, and how long you want to park

Pay by text:
You can pay by text once you’ve registered online.

- Cash payments at our parking machines - for hourly up to weekly tickets. Our machines are unable to provide change.
- Card & Contactless payments at some parking machines - available on machines at Fairfield General Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital, where you also need to enter your registration number to obtain a ticket.

Patient and Visitor Parking Charge Concessions
We offer a number of free or reduced price parking concessions. See table following for details and conditions.

This is available for; Fairfield General Hospital; Ward 5 (Primary Stroke Centre), Ward 10 (Critical Care) Wards 11a and 11b North Manchester General Hospital; Neonatal Unit Ward G1 (Critical Care Ward) Royal Oldham Hospital; NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit), ICU Pod A and Pod B (Intensive Care & High Dependency) |
Please speak to staff in the relevant ward/ department. The Ward Clerk or Ward Staff will have the details of how to access this facility if required. |
Patients attending for ongoing cancer and haematology treatment |
All relevant wards/ departments Free parking is available, for those attending more than 4 times in one month or for a period of treatment longer than 3 months, but only 1 permit/ voucher per patient. |
Two wards/ departments have access to this facility and administer it across the Trust. These are; The Macmillan Cancer Information & Support Centre at North Manchester General Hospital. Ward F11 Haematology at Royal Oldham Hospital for their patients. Please speak to staff in the relevant ward/ department. |
Parents and Visitors during occasion of end of life care, or a bereavement of a Patient. |
All ward and departments Free parking is available in certain situations For relatives attending the Swan Suites, specific signed free parking spaces are available. |

The Hospital Travel Cost Scheme
This allows you to reclaim travelling costs for attending hospital, if you receive certain welfare payments or have a valid exemption card or an HC2 form.
Please ask staff in the ward or department for the General/ Cashiers office contact details, for you to obtain more information. Travel costs are refunded with the correct documentation at the General/ Cashiers office locations following.

Parking Enforcement
As part of car parking management process, parking enforcement is in operation across the Group and vehicles found to be in breach of parking conditions, as detailed by relevant signage and road markings, may be issued with a parking charge notice.
If you have received a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) please visit https://www.openparking.co.uk/pcn/ to find out why the PCN was issued, see any photographic evidence taken at the time of issue, pay securely for the PCN or submit evidence to appeal against your PCN.
Appealing a Parking Charge Notice (PCN)
If you feel that your Parking Charge Notice (PCN) was issued incorrectly or you have mitigating circumstances, you can appeal the PCN by clicking on https://www.openparking.co.uk/pcn/ or alternatively writing to:
Open Parking, PO Box 1049, Northampton, NN4 4DZ.

Please note that appeals cannot be processed over the phone.
Please have ready...
- Your PCN number (e.g. NG12345678), which you can see on the PCN letter.
- Your Vehicle Registration Mark (number plate).
- Any evidence to support your appeal, which should be files or photos to upload in a JPG or PDF format (or printed and supplied with a written appeal).
Your PCN will be placed on hold at its current charge as soon as your appeal is received. Charges will not increase whilst your appeal is processed and Open Parking will aim to respond to you with a decision within 14 days.

Post a cheque to Open Parking, PO BOX 1049, Northampton, NN4 4DZ. Please note on the cheque the PCN number from your letter and your Vehicle Registration Mark (number plate).

Staff, Student and Contractor Parking – you need a valid application to park at our hospitals
Further information regarding this is on the Trust internal intranet pages and in Travel Choices and Parking information which should be included in recruitment and contractor information. If you cannot access the Trust intranet or have not received this information, please request it by emailing staff.parkingpermits@pat.nhs.uk.
All staff, contractors and students who are seeking to park a vehicle for longer than a 30 minute period on Trust sites must complete and submit a parking application. This includes visiting the hospital sites to pick up/ drop off equipment or attend regular meetings. If you do not have a valid, authorised parking application prior, you should not park on our hospital sites, or park as a visitor and pay the appropriate parking tariff rate.
