Welcome to the Pennine Acute Trust (PAT) Foundation Programme Web Page.

The foundation programme is delivered across four sites within the Trust. We have 96 FY1 trainees and 96 FY2 trainees. Each track is organised to enable trainee doctors to gain competencies in core clinical skills, as well as other professional skills such as teamwork and communication. Trainees will be assessed throughout the two-year period to explicit standards, which are set out in the Curriculum for the Foundation Years in Postgraduate Education and Training.

Each trainee will have to undertake a minimum number of assessments and provide evidence that they have achieved the competencies required in the foundation curriculum both in F1 and F2 placements.

The PAT can provide you with the essential training you will need and give you opportunities to experience all different types of medicine within the tracks. The foundation programme will put you on the right path for the Speciality Training programme (ST). Career planning is encouraged from the start of F1 and throughout the two year programme.
