What type of roles can we offer you within The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust?
The Trust offers varied and exciting opportunities for Registered Midwives delivering quality women-centred care across hospital and community settings.
Our hospital services are located at The Royal Oldham Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital.
Role options include:
- Midwife (Band 5) – Midwife working within the maternity unit in all areas on a rotational basis: antenatal ward, labour ward, postnatal ward, birth centre and community.
- Midwife (Band 6) – Midwife working within the maternity unit in all areas on a rotational basis: antenatal ward, antenatal day unit, triage department, labour ward, birth centre, postnatal and community.
- Specialist Midwives (Band 6) – Midwives working within specialist areas such as diabetes, young and pregnant, supporting case loads of women.
- Specialist Midwives (Band 7) – offering leadership to a defined caseload of women such as diabetes, young and pregnant, drugs and alcohol, mental health issues and public health.
- Labour Ward Co-ordinator (Band 7) – provides clinical advice and professional leadership in the labour ward environment supporting the Labour Ward Matron.
- Team Leader, community (Band 7) – provides clinical advice and leadership in the community environment supporting women’s choice and supporting the Community Matron.
- Matrons (Band 8a) – highly experienced Midwives offering professional leadership, educational support and development of the service in line with evidence based practice.
What training or qualifications do you need to join us?
Professional roles such as Midwives require specific relevant qualifications, usually at degree
level. Registered Midwives are also required to be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Council

“I have worked at Pennine for 13 years. My present post is working within a fantastic team in the birth centre at The Royal Oldham Hospital. The maternity service within Pennine offers
women-centred evidenced based care. I enjoy my role as a Midwife and have been supported to develop my skills and knowledge by attending in-house training and courses within the university setting, also attending courses for alternative therapies to offer a more holistic approach to our women. The Trust values all its staff and works really hard in keeping us informed of changes and improvements.”
