Pennine Acute NHS Trust opens its doors to its Booking and Scheduling Department – Tuesday 29 April
17 April 2014

THE Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust’s central appointment booking and scheduling department, based at Rochdale Infirmary, is opening its doors and inviting the public and its members to a free behind the scene tour on Tuesday 29th April at 1-3pm.

The Trust’s booking and scheduling department deals with all inpatient and outpatient appointments across the Trust’s four hospitals at North Manchester and Fairfield General Hospitals, The Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary.

The department consists of around 100 staff in total who receive and deal with approximately 1,500 telephone calls per day and arrange on average 960,000 appointments for patient a year.

The department is located on the top floor, level D, Rochdale Infirmary.  The tour will consist of a presentation and a tour of the department followed by a question and answer session.

The former Trust Contact Centre merged with the four Access Booking and Choice centres and centralised to one department at Rochdale Infirmary in 2011.  The vision to improve the patient journey by providing a single point of contact for inpatients, outpatients and diagnostics is a goal that the Trust is continuing to work towards.

The event will give visitors a chance to view the centralised booking service which manages access to patients for all four of the hospital sites, and to find out more about the patient’s journey from seeing their own GP to outpatient clinic appointment to potential treatment.

Janet Nicholls, Head of Booking and Scheduling at the Trust, said:

“I am looking forward to meeting patients and users of the service to see how we can improve the patient’s journey and the quality of the service we provide.  I hope that by the end of the event delegates will have an improved understanding of the booking processes we use at Pennine Acute”.

The event is part of the Trust's ‘Medicine for Members’ series of events which are held regularly at the Trust’s four hospital sites at The Royal Oldham, North Manchester General, Fairfield General and Rochdale Infirmary. These events give the public, staff and the Trust’s public members the opportunity to learn more about the how the Trust works. The Trust currently has 11,000 public members.
