James Martin spices up NHS hospital food

James Martin is to do for hospital food what Jamie Oliver did for school meals - or so he hopes. "It's turned into a monster", the Saturday Kitchen Chef told Radiotimes.com, "The latest count was 132 hospitals."

Pam Miller, Associate Director of Facilities, is an avid fan of James Martin and religiously watches his programmes, in particular his work within the NHS in recent years. So much so, that Pam invited James to Pennine Acute Hospitals to see what ideas he had to improve services on the new Children's Ward at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The film crew and James came along to Oldham in October 2013. The suggestions and comments James provided to the Trust were very well received, and have been incorporated onto the new Children's menu. The work completed at Oldham will now be rolled out on the Children's Ward at North Manchester General Hospital following positive feedback from patients, their families and staff on the ward.

The Catering Team and ward staff thoroughly enjoyed having James in the hospital and Christian Bull, Head Chef, has even changed the sticky toffee pudding recipe to the one used by James in his restaurant! To find out more about what happened during James' visit, check out the press release.
