Who is the service for?
This service is for all patients, male and female, either referred in by their GP or seen as an emergency with benign and malignant conditions of the urinary tract (kidney, ureter, bladder, prostate, urethra) or the male reproductive system (penis, testicles, fertility).
What does the service provide?
Urology offers a full range of urological assessment diagnosis and treatment. We aim to provide the highest achievable standards of care and some of the conditions we currently treat are:
- Bladder Cancer
- Bladder Stones
- Testicular Cancer
- Ejaculation Problems
- Kidney Cancer
- Kidney Infection
- Kidney Stones
- Prostate Cancer
- Prostate Disease
- Urinary Incontinence
- Urinary Infection
- Erectile Dysfunction
Who will patients meet while under your department’s/service’s care?
Patients will generally be seen by a Urologist (surgeon) in an outpatients clinic when referred to the service but may be seen by a Specialist Nurse.
From the first appointment, it is likely that diagnostic tests will be undertaken on the day or arranged for a later date. Diagnostic tests are carried out by a number of different specialists including specialist nurses, surgeons, radiologists and ultrasound staff.
Patients who require a procedure will also be looked after by theatre and nursing staff during admission.
When is the service available?
The Urology surgery service is available 7 days a week for all emergency referrals and Monday to Friday for non-emergency out-patient referrals from your GP.
Where is the service provided?
Inpatient surgery is undertaken at North Manchester.
