Who is the service for?

Referrals via G.P or Consultant to Consultant referrals.

Service provided for patients with Sleep Related Disorders:

  • Obstructive Sleep Apnoea / Snoring
  • Narcolepsy
  • Sleep Behaviour Disturbances / Parasomnias
  • Restless Leg Syndrome

What does the service provide?

A comprehensive assessment and range of investigations to diagnose and treat patients with sleep related disorders.

Who will patients meet?

Associate Practitioner – Responsible for performing sleep studies and CPAP mask fitting.

Clinical Physiologist – Responsible for performing complex sleep studies and initiation and continual assessment of patients on CPAP( Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) treatment.

When is the service available?

Monday to Friday 8am to 4.00pm (Excluding Bank Holidays).

Where is the service provided?

North Manchester General Hospital – CardioRespiratory Department Block A ( Entrance 4).

Fairfield General Hospital – CardioRespiratory Department Barlow Suite or Entrance 2.

Practical information

For sleep studies – No nail varnish or false nails to be worn.

For more complex sleep study - Sleep diary to be completed for 2 weeks prior to test.

Prior to CPAP treatment – information sheet provided regarding nasal drop treatment.

Prior to CPAP telephone consultation patient to complete Epworth Sleepiness score and measure weight prior to telephone review.

For patients on CPAP treatment – All equipment machines / masks / power leads must be brought to all appointments.
