Who is the service for?

This service is for all patients either referred in by their GP or seen as an emergency  with conditions affecting their vision.

What does the service provide?

The service will see all patients with conditions such a cataracts, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, children’s eye conditions, orthoptics, vitreo-retinal conditions, corneal and low vision aids services.

  • Consultant Ophthalmologists  and Ophthalmology Doctors

When is the service available?

The Ophthalmology service is available Monday to Friday for all out-patient attendances and emergency cover is provided by attending at an A & E department.

Where is the service provided?

For patients registered with an Oldham GP, full outpatient services along with diagnostic tests and some minor treatments such as laser therapy will be provided from the Integrated Care Centre in Oldham town centre.

Specialist eye day case and inpatient surgery will continue to be carried out at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

For all other patients outpatient services are provided at Rochdale Infirmary and Fairfield General, with day-case and inpatient surgery at Rochdale Infirmary. 

In addition to this, out-reach community clinics are available in the Tameside, Bury, Middleton, North Manchester and Heywood areas.
