Occupational Therapy

Who is the service for?

The Occupational Therapy service provides services to in-patient and out-patients across all Pennine sites. Occupational Therapists assist people to gain maximum independence in activities of daily living. Our in-patient service covers the following clinical areas: stroke, neurology, orthopaedics, surgery, general medicine, general rehabilitation and infectious diseases. The service operates a hand therapy unit and rheumatology service on an out-patient basis.

What does the service provide?

The main focus of the Occupational Therapy service is to facilitate a safe discharge from hospital into the community. This can include specialist assessments, treatment, home/access visits, equipment provision and education to families/carers to assist in the discharge process.

Who will patients meet?

The patients receiving care from occupational therapy will be assessed and treated by a qualified Occupational Therapist and may also receive care from an occupational Therapy assistant or technician.

When is the service available?

Current service provision is 8am until 4.30pm Monday to Friday with a weekend service provided to the orthopaedic, medical and stroke wards to expedite weekend discharges.

Where is the service provided?

The Occupational Therapy service is delivered across all Pennine hospital sites which are North Manchester General Hospital, The Royal Oldham Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital and The Floyd Unit for Neurological Rehabilitation.

Practical information

If attending an out-patient appointment patients should bring with them any necessary paperwork including pre-op orthopaedic measurement forms.
