New Community Intermediate Care Unit - North Manchester

In partnership with North Manchester CCG the Trust is building a new Community Intermediate Care Unit on the Delaunays Road side of the North Manchester General Hospital site.

Community Assessment Support Service (CASS) is a new service delivery model for integrated health and social care and was implemented from the 1 September 2015 in the North locality of Manchester. The CASS pathway incorporates traditional bed based intermediate care, enhanced bed based, intermediate care, crisis response, Accident & Emergency (A&E) navigators, home based intermediate care and reablement services as well as links to other community services and mental health services.

This is fantastic news and will enable the unit to provide ‘step up’ and ‘step down’ intervention for the patients of North Manchester and it will be a valuable community resource. The unit which will have 24 single en suite bedrooms is a key part of our Community Health Services and aims to provide rehabilitation and support independence.

The unit will have a mix of residential and nursing beds, the number is to be confirmed prior to opening. The unit will have medical and nursing staff to support people that have ongoing medical needs during their rehabilitation.

We are working with staff, patients and their families to ensure that the design of the unit meets the needs of all patients.

The facility is a replacement for beds currently provided at Henesy House and on J5 ward in the hospital. Work commenced in September 2016 and the building is due for completion at the end of September 2017.
