There are two Carers Centres available to offer advice and guidance to carers in the hospital environment either as a patient or as a visitor. It enables them to feel supported in their caring role, answering queries they have in regards to caring but also to show them what services are available to them in the community to help them continue caring safely and effectively at home.
The Carers Centres will make referrals to other organisations where appropriate in order to make sure carers are supported when they leave hospital.
Why might patients be referred to this department?
The carers service is there to support unpaid carers allowing them to access help and advice in regards to their individual caring role. Carers can drop in to either centre at a time convenient to them, they can also ring the office for advice or alternatively they can be referred by members of staff on the ward and an appointment can be made to discuss their needs as a carer.
