Pennine Acute Hospital Trust launches new patient friendly website

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust has unveiled a new look website which has been designed around the needs of patients and visitors following involvement from a number of the Trust’s patient groups.

The Trust’s new website contains a variety of patient and visitor information about the Trust, its hospitals and services, its quality and performance, reports, news and member events.

Patients can now empower themselves at the click of a button by finding all the information they need to know about the service, their consultant and their treatment, all in one place. It is hoped that by freeing up access to this vital information patients will experience a more informed and open patient journey.

A freshly designed A to Z list of services sits at the heart of the new website, which gives patients instant access to everything they need to know about the department treating them. This sits alongside three other A to Zs, which contain fully up to date information about our consultants, community services and patient information leaflets.

The Trust has also introduced new software to the website called BrowseAloud - a speech and reading support tool - which improves accessibility for the 20 percent of the population that requires reading support. This includes those with dyslexia, learning difficulties, mild visual impairments and those with English as a second language.

Patients who are unable to access the Internet, who are sensory impaired or need the information to be translated will still be able to contact the Trust directly by telephone to request a printed copy of any patient leaflets or information.

Andrew Lynn, Head of Communication, said: “Our aim has been to improve the way we communicate with patients and visitors to make it as easy as possible for people to access the information they need. We have worked with a number of our patient groups to improve the type of information we provide in our patient leaflets and on our website. We’ve taken the opportunity to improve the look and layout of our website, and also accessibility by investing in ways that supports people with a visual impairment, learning disability or whose first language is not English.”
