Rochdale Infirmary, Day Surgery Unit – free public talk & tour 11 July
On Tuesday 11th July 2017 (10 am – 11 am), staff from Rochdale Infirmary will be hosting a free public ‘talk and tour’ of the newly expanded Day Surgery Unit and Theatres at Rochdale Infirmary.
The event will be an opportunity for staff, the public and Trust members to learn more about the different surgical procedures carried out at the unit.
Recently the Day Surgery Unit opened eight new 23 hour post-operative beds, allowing patients to stay in one department from admission to discharge without needing transfer to another hospital. This has helped to relieve bed pressures and reduce cancelled operations.
Debra Mcilorum, Matron for the Day Surgery Department at Rochdale Infirmary said:
“We are constantly evolving the Day Surgery and Operating Theatres Department at Rochdale Infirmary so that we can provide the facilities surgeons need to carry out more complex surgical procedures, and so that we enhance overall patient satisfaction and provide a positive patient experience.”
The department has become a centre of excellence for day surgery procedures in General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Plastics, Oral, Pain, Vascular, Ophthalmology, Gynaecology and develop clinics for Urology and Lithotripsy.
In 2016 the department cared for over 11,000 patients undergoing surgical procedures. The department has recently recruited more clinically trained staff and developed new surgical pathways to ensure a safe service for patients.
The talk and tour on Tuesday 11th July 2017, is part of The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust’s series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events and will be held at the Day Surgery Unit, Level A, Rochdale Infirmary, with Debra McIlorum, Matron for the Day Surgery Department
