Palliative & End of Life Care ‘One Chance to Get It Right’- 19 July
12 July 2016

THE Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is inviting staff, patients, the public and its Trust members to attend a free talk on ‘Palliative and End of Life Care’ by the Macmillan Specialist Palliative Care and End of Life Care teams on Tuesday 19th July, 2pm – 3pm at the Education Centre, The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The Trust wants to ensure that all our local communities have access to high quality end of life care, and we want to make sure that our population is well informed and able to access co-ordinated care that identifies individual's preferences and wishes.

The National End of Life Care Audit Report (2016) stresses that as half of all deaths occur in a hospital setting it is paramount that acute hospital Trusts commit to delivering quality care for patients and their families at the end of life.

The Macmillan specialist palliative care team is dedicated to supporting ward staff in caring for patients in the last year of their lives with complex needs.

The Macmillan end of life care team deliver evidence based education and training and provide support for staff of all levels Trust wide.

Both teams are committed to improving patients and their loved ones experience, so that it is one of compassion, dignity and respect at all times.

Alice Davies, Macmillan Associate Lead Cancer and Palliative Care Nurse said:

“Palliative and End of Life Care must be at the heart of an integrated approach to care and support. We want to make sure care to individuals and their families is as good as possible for all.  Every individual should have fair access to this care and priorities, preferences and wishes must be addressed and taken into account. As an organization we continue to strive to ensure that the right help is given at the right time from the right people. The ultimate aim is to act together to achieve for everyone what we would want for our own families.”

The event is free and is one of a series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events arranged to give the public and the Trust’s public members a greater insight into their local hospital and the services it provides. So far, more than 12,000 people have signed up to become trust members.  To book your place contact Angela Greenwood on 01706 517302 or email
