Oldham Athletic says thanks to Royal Oldham staff
01 December 2017

A NUMBER of players and staff came to The Royal Oldham Hospital on 30 November to say thanks to staff for all the hard work they do and the care they provide to the community.

The players were welcomed by Oldham Care Organisation Chief Officer Donna McLaughlin, Divisional Managing Director for Medicine Sara Derbyshire and Associate Director of Workforce, Susan Hunt.

The players went on a tour of the hospital and handed out free tickets for the Oldham Athletic vs Northampton Town game, which is taking place on 9 December – a game they have dedicated to the emergency services.

Donna McLaughlin, Oldham Care Organisation Chief Officer said:

“It was an honour to welcome the players and staff from Oldham Athletic AFC to The Royal Oldham Hospital. They took time out from their busy training schedules to visit our staff, many whom are fans, and tour the wards and speak with our patients. The icing on the cake was that they also came armed with some free tickets for our staff, to say thank you for all the hard work they do.”

On 9 December Oldham Athletic’s Sky Bet League One clash against Northampton Town will be dedicated to the local emergency services as a tribute to the difficult and testing 12 months they have had.

Over 250 tickets have been distributed between the fire service, local police, paramedics and our Oldham Care Organisation staff.

Chief Executive at Oldham Athletic, Mark Moisley said:

“I am sure all supporters, along with everyone connected to the club, will offer a very warm welcome to our guests from the Emergency Services.

“We are always extremely grateful to them for the roles they perform, but this year even more so following the tragic events at the Manchester Arena.

“With a son in the Fire Service I am constantly aware of the dangers they face and the fantastic work all the services perform.

“I hope that this initiative will in some small way show our thanks and appreciation of everything they do for our community.”

There will be a bucket collection inside the ground to raise money for nominated charities of the emergency services, along with a collection outside the ground for the Oldham Gospel Choir.
