Royal Oldham - New Car Park for Staff
WORKMEN will arrive on site at The Royal Oldham Hospital on Monday 10th November 2014 to start work on building a new staff car park at Westwood Park.
Development of the new car park, which is set to be completed by June 2015, will remove the need for some hospital staff to park in the car park at Oldham Athletic Football Club, where the Trust has a lease agreement in place.
The new car park will create 560 new spaces for use by hospital staff and those that travel to the hospital on business from the Trust’s other hospitals. As well as being located a lot closer to the hospital, the new car park will feature improved security thanks to CCTV monitoring and a new controlled pedestrian entrance, allowing access for staff 24 hours a day seven days a week.
Additional security features that will be installed at the car park include security fencing around the car park, a barrier control system, help stations for use in emergency situations and improved lighting to increase visibility at night time and in the early mornings.
During the construction phase of the project, sections of two non-highway tracks will have to be closed to vehicles from 10 November 2014. Those affected are Westhulme Avenue, which is an un-adopted track, and an un-named path accessed from Westhulme Street, that runs above the park. The general public can view a photograph of the tracks that will be affected on the Trust website: http://www.pat.nhs.uk/Getting%20Here/Oldham%20-%20Road%20Closure%20Photo.pdf
Public and patient car parking at the hospital will not be affected by this development; this is designated by green signage. Until the new car park is completed some staff will continue to park in the Oldham Athletic FC car park.
The main contractor is a Manchester based national company called Bethell Construction.
Barry Waterhouse, travel and access manager at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust said:
“Having retained the temporary staff parking at Oldham Athletic FC for five years now and following acquisition of the Westwood Park site and planning approval, a new controlled and CCTV monitored parking area for our staff is to be provided at The Royal Oldham Hospital. This will act as a direct replacement of the spaces currently leased from the football club.
“This new dedicated staff parking area will have improved security and will be accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will also provide a parking facility as close as possible to the hospital site. In turn this will create an environment that is much better for our staff and hopefully it will make their journey to and from work as pleasant and as safe as possible.”
