There will also be the opportunity to have your blood pressure checked and attendees will be shown what information they need to have their cardiovascular disease risk calculated.
The cardiology directorate at Pennine Acute provides a wide range of services to investigate and treat patients with cardiovascular disease. These services are delivered by a multi-disciplinary team consisting of doctors, nurses, cardiac physiologist, radiologist and physiotherapist.
Paula Bithell, nurse consultant in cardiology at Pennine Acute Trust, said: “Cardiovascular disease is still one of the leading causes of death in the UK, with coronary heart disease (CHD) being the single biggest killer. There are more than 2.3 million people living with CHD and over half a million people living with heart failure in the UK.
“There are a number of factors that can contribute to cardiovascular disease that the general public should be aware off, as modifying these in your lifestyle can reduce the risk of developing heart disease.
“The majority of patients with stable symptoms of cardiovascular disease are reviewed, investigated and treated as an outpatient or day case. For more urgent or unstable symptoms, patients are admitted to hospital for investigation and treatment.
“The cardiology team is very proud of the wide range of services we provide and the developments that have been made over the years to enhance the care we deliver to our patients.”
If you would like to learn more about how to reduce your risk of developing heart disease and find out what other specialist services are on offer at Pennine Acute please come along to the talk on Friday 12th February 2016, 2 – 3 pm, Room D3, Education Centre, Rochdale Infirmary, Whitehall Street, Rochdale, OL12 0NB
