Free public talk at The Christie at Oldham - 16 June 5pm
02 June 2015

The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is inviting staff, patients, the public and its staff and public members to attend a free talk and presentation about services provided at The Christie at Oldham on Tuesday 16th June 2015, at 5.00 pm.

Radiotherapy treatment is based at The Christie at Oldham at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The Christie at Oldham was the first in a unique network of Christie radiotherapy centres, where patients can access first class radiotherapy treatment from Christie experts, closer to home.

Local patients from Bury, Middleton, North Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Tameside and further afield are treated at this centre for a large range of cancers, however rarer and more complex cancers are still treated at the main Christie site in Withington, South Manchester.

The event will give delegates the opportunity to find out more about the services provided at The Christie and will cover the medical provision, how treatment is planned and delivered, complementary and support services available on site, and an opportunity to go behind the scenes to view the equipment and technology close up.

Open since March 2010, the centre has expanded its service enormously, increasing access for local patients and providing increased additional support. The centre treats between 80-90 patients a day.

Julie Davies, lead radiographer said: “Community engagement is of great importance to the centre informing the public of our role and the work of The Christie is paramount. The team at The Christie continually strive to improve service and quality of care for our patients so we welcome the opportunity to invite people through our doors.”

‘Medicine for Members’ events are free and are held regularly at our four hospital sites, to give the public, staff and the Pennine Acute Trust’s Foundation Trust members the opportunity to learn more about the services at the Trust.   So far, nearly 12,000 people have signed up to become public members.
