On Thursday 5th October 2017, The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust will be hosting a free talk for the public and it members on ‘Nutrition and its role in patient recovery’.
The event to be held at the Education Centre at Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, 2pm – 3pm, will give delegates the opportunity to learn more about the work of the Nutrition and Dietetics service at the Trust and the ward initiatives that have been implemented to ensure good nutrition for every patient.
Sarah Parker, Dietetic Manager for the hospital acute Nutrition and Dietetic services across Pennine Acute, will talk about the importance of nutritional care as a cornerstone of treatment.
She said: “At the Trust every patient admitted is screened for malnutrition risk and has an individual nutrition care plan set up to support their recovery”.
“Our dietitians are dedicated to providing nutrition as treatment and ensuring their patients receive all the nutritional support they need. Nutrition is everyone’s responsibility, from the hospital chefs to the staff nurses and doctors on the wards.”
The talk will cover the role of the dietitian within the hospital team, Malnutrition as a modern medical problem and the assessment and treatment of malnourished patients. Sarah will discuss the nutritional care provided at Pennine including recent initiatives to improve quality of care for patients in our wards.
The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust runs a Nutrition Steering Group with operational groups dedicated to improving the delivery of nutritional care, including getting the right food to the right patients on the wards.
The talk takes place at the Education Centre at Fairfield General Hospital, on Thursday 5th October between 2 – 3pm.
The event is free and is one of a series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events arranged to give the public and the Trust’s public members a greater insight into their local hospital and the services it provides. So far, more than 12,500 people have signed up to become public Trust members.
