Free mortuary talk & virtual tour at The Royal Oldham Hospital - 20 December 2016
ON Tuesday 20th December 2016, the general public will be given the opportunity to attend a free talk about the Mortuary Service and a virtual tour at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust which runs the service at Oldham will be hosting the a free event presented by Amanda Eckersley, Cellular Pathology and Mortuary Service Manager and Michelle Hoyle Mortuary Manager. The talk will give people the chance to find out more about the mortuary and the service provided at Pennine Acute.
The Mortuary Service comprises of The Mortuary at The Royal Oldham Hospital with body stores at the other sites.
The mortuary at The Royal Oldham is the Forensic Mortuary for all of Greater Manchester dealing with suspicious deaths, it also the mass fatality mortuary this means if there is a major incident anywhere in Greater Manchester the mortuary will be handed over to the Police to deal with any fatalities
Amanda Eckersley, Cellular Pathology and Mortuary Service Manager said: “The Mortuary Facility is a modern state of the art facility which was opened in 2007. This is one of the busiest Mortuaries in the area. It deals with over 6,000 deaths per annum. The Mortuary Service carries out 1500 coroners post-mortems per annum and 400 Forensic post-mortems per year.”
The Mortuary Facility has been used for filming of drama series for example ITV’s drama Scott and Bailey.
This event is a talk and virtual tour of the department.
The talk will be held on Tuesday 20th December, 2.00 pm – 3.00 pm, in the Seminar Room, The Pathology Department at the Royal Oldham Hospital. The event is free and open to the public, staff and the Pennine Acute Trust members.
The event is free and is one of a series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events arranged to give the public and the Trust’s public members a greater insight into their local hospital and the services it provides. So far, more than 12,500 people have signed up to become Trust members.
