FAMILIES who have lost a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or shortly after birth are being invited to a special service of remembrance at North Manchester General Hospital.

The service will be held in the post graduate education centre at the hospital on Wednesday 6 July at 7pm.

The Baby Memorial Service, which lasts for up to 45 minutes, will offer families a chance to reflect on their loss and will provide an opportunity to remember all the babies who have died.

Rev John Hall, chaplaincy co-ordinator at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, said:

“Within society today, stillbirth and neo-natal deaths are certainly still very much sensitive subjects.

“The remembrance service will offer families a chance to come together and remember their babies in a sympathetic and understanding environment.

“Everyone is welcome to attend and it will be a time to pause and reflect whilst remembering their loss. Many people who have attended previous services have certainly felt that they have had a sense of comfort from the event.”

Anyone who would like further details on the memorial service should Rev Sandra Tauson on 0161 720 2990.

The Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS) offers support for families who have faced stillbirth or neo-natal deaths. They can be contacted on 020 7436 5881 or online at www.uk-sands.org
