The Swan Fund
The Swan end of life care model introduced at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and created at Salford Royal Foundation Trust. Swan offers dedicated support to patients in the last days of life and to their families into bereavement and beyond.
End of life care is a difficult period for patients and relatives and there are many choices available to them, for example the decision to sign the organ donor register and whether they would prefer to die at home. As part of the new Swan charitable fund relatives are given ‘memory bags’ for deceased patients’ property, replacing the traditional plastic bag. Family are also encouraged to take locks of hair, take hand prints and spend close family time together before bereavement . The Swan charitable fund is to enable staff to fund all of the bespoke equipment that we want to provide families with to help create moments that will turn into memories that will last forever.

The Blood Counts charity fund supports The Haematology Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital. All donations and funds raised are used to purchase additional equipment, enhancements to facilities and assist the Trust in providing the highest standard of care for all patients.
Patients with chronic long term blood disorders and blood cancers receive treatment in the integrated day case and 22 bedded inpatient unit. Most patients attending the Haematology Unit are receiving chemotherapy and can be in hospital for prolonged periods of time combined with numerous day case attendances.
Patient care is coordinated by an extensive team of Consultants, Specialist Registrars, Clinical Nurse Specialists and many others whose focus is on providing compassionate and quality driven care.
Your support is greatly appreciated and any donation you are able to make will make a real difference to our patients.

The Link4Pink Appeal was created in 2008 to benefit patients attending the Victoria Breast Unit. Our first project was to raise money to build a £160,000 conservatory extension to Unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital. In May 2011, following three years of successful fundraising by Link4Pink and with the support of the local community,
the Trust opened the newly built facility.
The Link4Pink appeal continues to raise much needed funds to support the work of The Victoria Breast Unit, and to enhance the care and facilities the unit is able to provide for breast care patients. Receiving overwhelming support from members of the public, the appeal has recently purchased various pieces of equipment including a mammography biopsy mobile chair, and funded renovation of the Unit’s garden to provide an inviting, peaceful outdoor space where patients can sit.

Gordon Desser established the Think Floyd Appeal in 2008 in memory of his wife Gill Desser. Gordon has worked tirelessly with a small committee to raise over £25,000 for the Floyd Unit - a neuro-rehabilitation unit at Birch Hill Hospital, Rochdale.
The Appeal has helped to purchase medical equipment for the unit and building work to completely refurbish the internal courtyard has now been completed.

Watch Your Mouth
Staff in the maxillofacial unit at North Manchester General Hospital set up the Watch Your Mouth charity appeal in 2008. The aim of the appeal was to promote mouth cancer awareness and to fundraise for head and neck cancer patients in the department.
The charity fund has been a great success and we have been able to provide two water machines, various medical equipment and we now have a free tea and coffee-making machine for our head and neck patients, which has proved to be very popular.

In Your Hands Appeal
We launched the In Your Hands Appeal in February 2011 in a bid to raise £200,000 for the new women and children's unit at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
All the money raised was put towards towards buying new medical equipment for sick children and babies and to help furnish and enhance the new facility for pregnant women, children and parents.
The unit is now fully open and up and running in a new purpose-built four-storey building. The enhancements made include the refurbishment of existing wards, new delivery rooms, obstetric theatres, a paediatric theatre, maternity beds and a brand new Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit. The unit now consists of 37 cots with 9 intensive care, 9 high dependency and 19 special care cots. It also provides paediatric services with 40 beds.
The Royal Oldham Hospital is now one of three regional centres providing the highest level of intensive care to the smallest and most vulnerable babies.
