The NHS turns 70 on July 5, 2018, and we’d like you to join us to celebrate this major milestone.
Our staff across our hospitals and community services provide through our Care Organisations within the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group will be teaming up this summer to mark this very special birthday.
Launched on July 5 1948, the NHS was an ambitious plan to bring good healthcare to all. It was the first time all hospitals, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, opticians and dentists were brought together to deliver services that were free at point of delivery.
We’ve got lots of celebrations planned to celebrate our past and our exciting future, making sure that our staff play a big part in these.
To mark the anniversary, we are holding two special Medicine for Members events with attendees being taken on a journey through the past, present and future and the opportunity to meet some of our wonderful staff members. The events are open to our members, the public and our staff and partner agencies.
The sessions will be held on Thursday 5 July at:
- 11am – 12pm in the Frank Rifkin Lecture Theatre, Level 1, Mayo Building, Salford Royal, Stott Lane, Salford, M6 8HD
- 3pm – 4pm in F17 Education Centre, Royal Oldham Hospital, Rochdale Road, Oldham, Manchester, OL1 2JH
You are welcome to attend either (or both) events. Please confirm your attendance by contacting the Membership Office on Foundation@srft.nhs.uk or calling 0161 206 3133.
Not a member? Don’t worry, you can sign up to become one either on the day of the event or at any time. If you would like to become a member please contact email@example.com for more details.

Share your NHS stories
The NHS is one of the nation’s most-loved organisations – it has touched all of our lives at some point.
Our patients and service users are also being invited to get involved. We’d like to hear about your memories of the last 70 years of the NHS. Whether you have memories of working for one or more of our organisations, were a patient years ago or your family history is linked to the NHS, we’d love to hear from you.
We are appealing for members of the public to share their stories, photos and memories of healthcare in Salford, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and North Manchester.
- Were you the first patient to receive a certain type of treatment?
- Did you used to work for the NHS within the areas above and have some fond memories of days-gone-by?
- Perhaps you’re from a family with a strong connection with the NHS with many generations working within it?
- Do you have an inspiring story about how the NHS has changed or even saved your life?
If so, we’d love to hear you stories so that we can celebrate these within our organisation or perhaps even more publically on our websites and social media platforms.
You can send your story or pictures either by post to:
